When I heard The Sartorialist was coming to Toronto no one was more excited then me. I am always inspired by the clothes everyday people wear on the street, and Scott Schuman in my mind is a genius.
His ability to capture people in passing on the street is incredible. The style of the people he stops is amazing in that they are fashion-forward and effortless in their anything but generic approach to fashion. I’m always in awe of the way the photos turn out because they are such beautiful works of art; the photos feature clothes which are sometimes juxtaposed with the rough surroundings of an alley way (see photo at right), or just a beautiful woman walking the streets of Paris.
Schuman’s work has also appeared in GQ, Vogue and WWD. He was also selected as one of Time Magazine’s 100 design influences, which should come as no surprise considering his 15+years experience in the fashion industry.
I have been checking his blog constantly to see shots of Toronto, but so far nothing yet. His work will be on display at Holt Renfrew-Bloor Street July 22-29. You can also pick up his book The Sartorialist, which is available at Indigo starting August 18. I am so tempted to buy more then one copy of the book and frame some of the photos. Also check out a slideshow I built for ELLECanada.com on his Sartorial Style!
